Thickening of the penis
Can my penis be wider?
Yes, there is a surgical procedure which increases the diameter of the penis. Even though it is technically possible, not all patients are eligible to undergo this surgery. It is essential to visit the specialist in order to evaluate the patient’s possibilities and the risk factors, as well as the anatomical conditions and his psychological stability.
How many centimetres can I gain?
Though it depends on the patient’s anatomy, surgery can achieve an increase of between 1 to 2-centimetres. During the first visit, the doctor will examine the patient’s anatomy to determine the best surgical approach. It is vital to maintain realistic expectations regarding the final result, therefore the doctor will thoroughly explain what can be expected from the surgery, as well as the surgical procedure and how to handle the post-surgical process.
What does the surgery consist of?
Increasing the diameter of the penis can be achieved through three different techniques, all of which use the patient’s own fatty tissue:
– Conventional lipofilling. This technique uses the patient’s own fat to increase the penis’ diameter. The autologous fat tissue is extracted from the patient’s body (thighs, lower abdomen or hips), then it is prepared and injected in the penis to make it thicker. The reabsorption rate for this technique is approximately 70%.
– Lipofilling with puregraft. In this case, the medical team will use an acellular matrix in order to filter the fat and enhance its purity. The resulting fat will be filtered, emulsified and specifically centrifuged to preserve most of the living cells before it is injected in the penis. The reabsorption rate for this technique is around 55-60%.
– Lipofilling with stem cells. This technique uses enriched fat with progenitor cells of stromal fraction, which help to better assimilate the fat graft as well as its viability. This is the most innovative technique and it was developed by Dr Llull from Palma de Mallorca’s Stem Center together with Dr Rosselló. Through small incisions, the medical team obtains cells from the patient’s body, which will later be used to enrich the fat with mother cells and thus proceed with the thickening. Then, after a sophisticated production process, mother cells are injected to the previously extracted fat thus increasing its vitality and decreasing the reabsorption rate within the patient’s body. These cells will thicken the penis with live tissue, to provide a larger volume to it. Lipofilling with stem cells is also the perfect technique to reconstruct the contour of any body part which has suffered a morphological change. The reabsorption rate for this technique is 40-45%.
Thickening of the penis may be carried out together with the enlargement of the penis surgery.
How long does the surgery take?
It depends on the technique:
The first two techniques (conventional lipofilling and lipofilling with puregraft) are outpatient interventions that last around 60 minutes. They require regional anaesthesia and, in most cases, the patient can leave the hospital within 3 or 4 hours after the surgery.
The technique with mother cells is only carried out in our Palma de Mallorca clinic in collaboration with Dr Ramón Llull and his Stem Center team, all of whom have developed this technique .
Is penile enhancement surgery dangerous?
It is a surgery without any specific risk, apart from risks usually associated with any surgical intervention that requires anaesthesia. The most important part in this surgery is the post-surgical process, which involves certain precautions that the patient must follow scrupulously in order to ensure the fat is evenly distributed along the penis shaft. It is equally important to attend follow up visits with the doctor to monitor the results.
Can I have a thickening and an enlargement of the penis at the same time?
Yes, it is possible.
Can I increase the size and diameter of my penis with pharmaceutical drugs?
No. Drugs and supplements that claim to increase the size or the diameter of the penis have no scientific evidence whatsoever and do not help to increase neither the length nor the width of the penis.
Are the results of this surgery permanent?
In the first two techniques there is the possibility of reabsorbing the fat, whereas this possibility decreases significantly with the stem cell technique. However, results are remarkable for a long time and there is no need of a second intervention.
